Like Monet, I need flowers all day, every day! And creating flower arrangements is surprisingly so de-stressing. Grocery stores like my favorite Trader Joe’s make it easy for us to have access to beautiful blooms year-round. Here’s a three-layer arrangement I created for Valentine’s Day with 4 flowers and greens I picked up at Trader Joe’s.
bunch of deep red spray roses
bunch of purple lilies
bunch of cream alstroemeria
bunch of eucalyptus greens
flower shears or sharp scissors
vase (mine is about 6″ tall with a 4″ wide opening)
large bucket if you want to feel like a pro and have all your flowers on hand
First, you will need to trim the alstroemeria so that they stand just above the rim of the vase. Arrange in a circle around the rim to create the base layer of the arrangement.
Next, trim the roses so that they are just taller than the alstroemeria. Fill the vase with the roses for the second layer of the arrangement.
The third layer is more loose and freeform. Add some small branches of the eucalyptus so they are poking out from the roses. I used about 5 small branches. Take one larger branch and place it off center on top of the arrangement to add height and interest.
Finally, trim and place the lilies on top of the roses and make sure they are peeking out too.
And you’re done! Perfect to decorate your table for Valentine’s Day or to give as a gift! I’d love to see the arrangement you come up with, so please share it on Instagram with #lorcottage.
Some flower arranging tips:
- as soon as you get the flowers home, trim the stems about an inch and on an angle and place into fresh water
- make sure all leaves are removed from the stem that will be submerged in the water in the vase
- change the water every two days to prolong the life of the flowers
- rotate the vase around as you are working to make sure the arrangement looks good from all angles.
